Throughout September, Amaze continued advocating for changes to programs, government regulation and legislation, to improve support for autistic individuals and their families.
Amaze led the consultation and development of the Australian Autism Alliance’s submission to the inquiry into the services, support and life outcomes of autistic people in Australia. The submission called for major changes to how the government funds, organises and supports services for autistic people. Amaze’s primary recommendation was for the establishment of a National Autism Strategy. The submission can be viewed here.
Amaze also made a formal submission to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and its consultation on reforming the Support Coordination Team. The submission called for a reset of Support Coordination as the current system is not delivering on its vision and promise, resulting in it not serving NDIS participants well. Amaze welcomed recent announcements of some school students being able to return to onsite schooling in the coming Term 4. This was in-line with what the community told us about their desire for on site schooling to reopen, based on our recent Term 3 survey. These results are helping us continue to advocate to the Victorian Government to better support autistic students. The survey results can be viewed here.
