We are excited to welcome back some familiar faces with an exclusive, limited-edition T-shirt designed by Felix, a talented young community member!
You may remember Felix’s characters from our 2023 Hoodie Up for Autism campaign. Now, these characters are back in 2024 on a special T-shirt, continuing to spread awareness and foster inclusion.
A few years ago, after seeing the challenges faced by his two Autistic younger brothers at school, Felix created these characters to raise awareness about autism among his peers. Recognising the need for greater understanding and education, he designed the characters to represent the neurodivergent experience in children.
The motif of the characters wearing hoodies symbolises the sensory and social experiences of neurodivergent people, who might seek an extra layer of security between themselves and the world. Felix’s characters provide a visual representation of how autism may look and offer relatable depictions of the diverse neurodivergent experience.
Each character in Felix’s design tells a unique story, showcasing the diversity and individuality of the neurodivergent experience.
Luke is 10 years old and loves riding his bike. He is Autistic, has ADHD, and has developmental coordination disorder (specifically dysgraphia), which makes writing difficult.
Despite the challenges, Luke never gives up and always does his best. He is great at maths and enjoys building with Lego.
Jamal is 12 years old and loves playing basketball, chess, and video games. He is Autistic, has ADHD, and is exceptionally bright.
He always sees the world in his own unique way and is an excellent reader and phenomenal speller.
Mei is 22 years old and loves designing fashion and creating music.
She balances her passions with family responsibilities and supports and cares for her two autistic brothers.
Despite their different interests, Mei always finds time to jump on the trampoline with her siblings.
Ruby is 17 years old and identifies as non-binary.
They are passionate about environmental conservation and enjoy hanging out with their friends. In their spare time,
Ruby reads comics, draws, and paints.
Luke, Jamal, Mei, and Ruby each have their own unique experiences. They were created with love by Felix to spread love for Autistic people. For Felix, anyone wearing his design is helping to ensure that no Autistic person is left behind and that everyone feels accepted and included.
Felix believes inclusion is all about respect. To include others is to respect them and their differences. An inclusive environment is one where a person feels safe to always be themselves. Felix wants his designs to remind others that it’s the small things that matter when it comes to inclusion. Saying “g’day” to colleagues, welcoming new people at school or work, and ensuring every voice in a discussion is heard.
Amaze is excited to launch this limited-edition T-shirt featuring Felix’s design, which will be released to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (December 3, 2024).
By purchasing a T-shirt, you’ll be helping to foster an inclusive environment for all and supporting the work of Amaze in creating an autism-inclusive Australia.
